Balade d'un autre genre

A mobile application offering a tour through the city of Geneva centered on the theme of gender.

Challenge

The Women in the City association wanted to develop a mobile application to offer residents and tourists in Geneva an innovative way to discover the city while raising awareness about gender issues. The application was to allow users to follow an interactive route in the city, guiding them through historical places marked by the contributions of women who played a key role in the history of Geneva. The goal was not only to offer a fun and educational experience but also to invite reflection on gender issues through questions and interactive challenges.

The main technological challenge was to design a mobile application capable of adapting to various types of users and offering a smooth and intuitive experience at every stage of the journey. The need to create a robust platform, accessible on Android and iOS, led Women in the City to call on Octoplus Solutions for the implementation of this project.

Strategic Technological Choices

To meet these specific needs, the Octoplus Solutions development team opted for React Native, a technology that allows the creation of a mobile application available on both Google Play and the App Store with a single code base. This approach reduced development costs and time while ensuring optimal performance across both operating systems.

The structure of the application is based on an interactive user interface, where the stages of the journey are enriched with different types of content: questions, multiple-choice quizzes (MCQs), image and text associations, as well as the recognition of visual elements in the streets of Geneva. These interactions are entirely managed by React Native, ensuring smooth navigation and optimal responsiveness on all platforms.

Ensuring Interactivity and Personalization of Routes

One of the keys to the success of this application lies in user engagement through an interactive approach. The application asks questions at each stage of the journey, with answers to be found by exploring the city.

The routes are offered in several versions to suit different audiences: families, school groups, or adults wishing to deepen their historical and cultural knowledge. Each route varies in duration, from 1 to 2 hours, with optional audio formats available to enrich the experience. Clues are also available to help users progress in the game.

Educational and Accessible Content

The application is not limited to simple playful discovery. At each stage, users have access to additional educational content about the women who have marked the history of Geneva. This content is presented through informative texts, historical images, and audio resources. The inclusive approach of the application aims to raise awareness among a wide audience about gender equality issues while highlighting inspiring journeys.

Towards a Discovery of Geneva of a Different Kind

Thanks to close collaboration with Women in the City, Octoplus Solutions succeeded in creating an innovative and engaging mobile application, offering a new way to discover Geneva, while addressing important gender issues. By combining technology, interactivity, and educational content, the application offers an enriching experience for both residents and visitors of the city.

The application is available on Google Play and the App Store and is already receiving positive feedback thanks to its unique concept and user-friendly interface. With this application, Women in the City hopes to raise awareness among a wide audience while offering a new way to explore the city.
